Serious crash closes Highway 1A near Cochrane – Calgary


The RCMP say Highway 1A, just east of Cochrane, is expected to be closed until at least noon after a serious crash forced police to close the road early Wednesday morning.

EMS said they received a call around 5:20 a.m. for a two-vehicle accident on the Cochrane Hill, just east of town.

There were a total of three people in the vehicles.

Helicopter video from the scene shows significant damage to both vehicles.

An EMS spokesperson said STARS Air Ambulance transported one person in critical condition to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.

A second person was rushed to hospital in serious but stable condition. The third person was not transported.

Highway 1A was closed between the two Gleneagles Drive exits during the busy morning rush hour and motorists were asked to avoid the area.

RCMP say the road will remain closed until at least noon, but the investigation could also take significantly longer.
